Sr. Project engineer - SIX SIGMA BLACK BELT
Location: Crystal Lake, IL
Description Job Description:
This Sr. Project engineer will be responsible for using his technical, 6-
sigma, and lean manufacturing tools to complete a variety of plant
continuous improvement projects. Projects may already be in a variety of
different statuses from non-existent, to concept known, to ready to
implement.
Job Requirements:
•Must have a 6-sigma black belt certification
•Must have training and experience in instituting lean manufacturing
methodologies.
•Experience designing/implementing manufacturing solutions for the medical
device industry and working under FDA regulation.
•Skills in DOE, FMEA, risk analysis, validations.
•Ability to carry out engineering calculations and analysis.
•Ability to lead teams through complex projects.
•Ability to write engineering documents, test protocols, laboratory
notebook entries and reports.
•Ability to operate light machine tools and laboratory instruments.
•Ability to make oral presentations at company meetings.
•Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external personnel.
•Effective oral and written communication skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1)Make thorough studies of existing conditions related to the problem
presented and analyze needed changes to reduce waste, improve quality and
safety, and reduce operating expenses.
2)Ability to ‘redesign’ an exiting machine component(s) to improve
performance. This may include, but is not limited to, adding additional
sensors and brackets, modifying or adding stations, etc.
3)Project Management of capital improvement projects. Responsibilities
include:
a. Providing project definition, capital and expense estimates, and
project schedules.
b.Ensure project(s) are completed on schedule and within budget.
c. Reviewing mechanical designs for reliability, efficiency, and safety.
d.Ensure new equipment meet all applicable safety and environmental
requirements.
e.Provide floor layouts that are acceptable to production.
f.Ensure completion of technical documentation, spending schedules,
resource requirements, system mechanical drawings, and as-built assembly
drawings.
4)Perform validations as required.
DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC/NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1)Plans, constructs, and develops operating procedures for new processes.
2)Use and understand Statistical based software and Quality tools (i.e.,
Process Mapping) for warranting process changes or improvements.
3)Efficient use of CAD software for various plant manufacturing
engineering applications.
4)Perform monthly or quarterly project presentations to the plant staff.
5)Oversee CAPA projects as directed.
6)Work with Corporate Engineering, R&D, and the OEM Departments as needed
to support new equipment or product lines.
7)Have the ability to lead small groups of associates on individual or
collective projects.
8)Ability to perceive simple solutions to a broad concept of problems.
Requirements Education:
•Bachelor’s degree (BA) in Engineering, from an accredited four (4) year
college or university
Experience:
•At least five (5) years related experience is required.
•We are looking for a 6-sigma black belt that that has used the tools to
implement a variety of projects and loves using the tools.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
•Proven track record of instituting lean manufacturing principles that
made substantial improvements to operations is highly preferred.
•Working knowledge plastic injection molding process is preferred.
•Experience in a production and/or maintenance supervisory position is preferred.
